Workout Summary: Ride 52 miles (3:30/ 2200 ft ascent)
Trains obviously on a different schedule last night. Came through town whistling about every 30 minutes until about 4 am. Got about 4-5 hours of total sleep. Pretty tired on ride so just held it at 3.5 hours. Could have kept spinning easy but why? Dont want to turn into a mileage junkie this week. I will have a good ride tomorrow.
Rode out to Camp Pendleton Marine base, across the ocean side of base, then up the coast a few miles and back. I Marine jet screamed over us...could barely see it, but man you could here it. It went on to drop 3 bombs, each of which exploded off in the hills. The shock wave shook the ground under my bike...I have never felt that much power before, and I guess the bombs dropped several miles from us. It was actually impressive. Counted 7 helicopters in the air doing maneuvers also, very impressive to see those things bank 90 degree turns. Passed by a couple of amphibian assault vehicals, of course carrying guys carrying huge guns. One thing, everytime we approached a soldier, they were extremely polite, always addressing me as "sir", offering to give us directions, asking where we are from and if we are enjoying the ride.
Diet:
breakfast: 3 pancakes and 1 crepe. All covered with strawberries and bananas. Some homemade citrus syrup my dad threw together. 16 oz skim milk. 1 coffee.
Ride: 1, 30 oz nutrition bottle with 150 grams carbs. 1 gel. Water. Recovery, the usual.
Dinner: tuna on wheat pita, ate quite a bit of tuna, about 2 cups worth. Potato and broccoli salad my Dad made.
Before bed: 2 handfuls of licorice jellybeans, 2 beers.
