Day off
Went home, ate and had a beer.
Read all of Gordo's blog regarding nutrition before and during his races as well as recovery. It's nice to know this information, as it was like reading my own blog. I am very happy to read information almost identical to what I have been doing since my first IM, which was simply adopted from my years of marathon racing nutrition. Efficient nutrition is vital when running 5:35-40 per mile pace in a marathon. I think learning these strategies over the 10 yrs of competing in marathons is what set the knowledge base for my 3:08 marathon at my first IM at CDA 04.
I would tell friends, well there is so much luck involved in getting to Hawaii. Well, esp after reading Gordo's advice, I know its definately not luck. Those who spend the time focusing on the details of targeted nutrition throughout training and racing will prevail on race day when stacked up against any athlete of similar or slightly better fitness.
